Mother’s Ilk is an exhibition that brings together six male artists to produce a work of art in collaboration with their mother. The concept acknowledges the foundational creative role mothers play in the lives of men by re-evaluating and celebrating this potent, positive interaction of the masculine/feminine that the mother and son relationship represents.
This exhibition is about strong families and reinforcing positive male/female relationships. It looks meaningfully at creativity, exploring art-making practices both accessible and contemporary. No less a ‘grounding’ moment for sons/artists to spend quality time with their mothers, the show is a poetic opportunity for these established and emerging artists to return to the zero point of their own creativity.
